Modern Hatha Yoga Training brings together techniques from various yogic/movement traditions to help students explore new and dynamic approaches to yoga asana, deepen one’s awareness and connection to the body and breath, and experience a sense of joy and freedom in one’s practice and in life. This course introduces a variety of techniques from the Gyrokinesis and Pilates systems as well as Kundalini, Taoist and Tibetan Yogas to integrate into a Hatha Yoga asana practice. These tools help to increase strength, stability and coordination in one’s body; allow ease of movement and tension release through breath and energy work; and provide tools to bring more creativity to one’s personal practice and in teaching classes.

This 5-day training will cover:
accessing core muscle groups for strength and stability in asanas
applying spinal movements for healthy posture and back
breathwork to awaken our core energies and clear obstacles
integration through both beginning and intermediate/advanced yoga sequences
hands-on adjustments and prop usage
constructing and teaching original sequences

This training is a continuing education course for yoga teachers and experienced students alike. Those wishing to receive supplementary practice and technique are invited to take the 12-hour workshop series for arm balancing & jumping transitions. 12-Hour Workshop Series – Arm Balancing & Jumping Transitions

This 4-day series is a cumulative yoga program for providing a knowledgable foundation, practical techniques, and a focused course of study for two of the more challenging yoga asana techniques—arm balancing and jumping in vinyasa. We will discover how the practice of one supports the other, and how practicing intelligently and safely one can experience a flow and overall harmony in these physically demanding movements. There’s no promise that one will become proficient with these techniques right away! So the elements of the series combine to create a comprehensive practice for one to integrate the course materials. And with steady, diligent practice one can experience the results of beautifully controlled arm balancing and gracefully effortless jumping transitions.

This 4-day series will cover:

  • developing strength and coordination for arm balancing/hand stands
  • anatomy of core muscles, pelvic & shoulder girdles
  • breathwork for awakening the bandhas
  • Pilates and Gyrokinesis exercises for stability and control
  • applying arm balancing in jumping back/jumping through
  • all four training days combine to create a supportive yoga program you can practice at home

This yoga workshop series is for all levels of students. Those wishing further instruction are invited to take the 30-hour Modern Hatha Yoga course. The 5-day teacher training is a continuing education course for both yoga teachers and experienced students alike.

We will explore the physical system through movements, breathing techniques and sound practices which focus on developing awareness of skeletal alignment, moving function and increased breathing function. The synchronicity of body movement with breath and mental focus creates a proper container to store energy needed for the expansion of awareness. The meditation practices open the third eye or intuition center and activate the navel or digestion center to process experiences and refine energy for growth. Come join us for our sixth annual Summer Retreat where we’ll honor life and celebrate love through diverse and dynamic yoga practices. The day begins with a blend of Hatha and Kundalini Yoga, the afternoons with Vinyasa and Gyrokinesis movement. We will bathe in the sounds of the sacred chants, teachings, and poetry of the mystics. And the days will end with one of our favorite practices, Sufi Dancing! This retreat will also give everyone more free time to be with nature and explore the power spots in the Mitake Mountains.

The contemporary form of Indian Yoga we know today (Ashtanga, Iyengar, etc.) borrows from a variety of traditions including Indian wrestling and British gymnastics. In this workshop we will explore a unique approach to refining our asana, examining techniques from the GYROKINESIS® system which integrates core strength, full range of motion, and energetic awareness. We will learn three key elements to dynamic movement, learn how to integrate these techniques in our yoga practice, and use practical hands-on techniques to support a deeper experience of the asana. When we begin our journey with yoga, it’s like preparing the soil for a garden to produce an abundance of fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices. As we deepen our practice, we plant the seeds that we choose
to cultivate. And if we want the best possible result with our garden, we create the best possible environment to nurture these seedlings. So similarly in our yoga practice, it is an important step to cleanse the body and mind to properly cultivate the ‘seed’ or light of our true nature which yoga reveals.

Spring is the perfect time of year to cleanse. It is when new growth appears in nature. It is when new blood is produced in the body and naturally we shed old, unused material. And by doing specific dietary cleanses in combination with asana, healing breaths and meditation, we create the optimal environment for our work with yoga to bear fruit.

In this workshop, we will introduce yoga asana designed specifically to heal the digestive system which, if not working properly, is the cause of many illnesses and diseases. We will look at healthy daily habits that will support you in preparing to detox. Plus we will look at a few suggested yogic cleanses which will aid in our body’s natural desire and ability to repair and heal itself. If we simply lighten the load we place on our bodies and minds, our yoga practice will bear the fruit that will nourish us deep within and eternally without.

ヨガの旅を始めるということは、果物、野菜、ハーブやスパイスをたくさん育てようとする時に庭の土を準備するようなものです。練習が深まってくると、わたしたちは育てようとしている植物の「種」を蒔くのです。できるだけ多くの実りがあるようにと、最高の環境を与え、「種」に養分がいくようにします。これはヨガの練習にもあてはまります。身体とマインドの浄化は、ヨガによって明らかになる「種」もしくは「わたしたちが本来持っている性質からの光」を正しく培っていくための大切なステップなのです。

春は一年のうちで浄化を行うのに最も適しています。自然界では、新しい生命が芽吹きます。体内で新しい血液が作られ、古くなり使われなかった体内物質が自然に体外に排出されます。アサナ、ヒーリングの呼吸、瞑想に加えて、特別なデトックス食事療法を実践すると体内で最高の環境が作り出され、わたしたちのヨガの練習が実を結びます。

このワークショップでは、特に消化器系の臓器の調子を整えるアサナをとりあげます。この臓器がきちんと機能しなければ、さまざまな疾患、病気を引き起こす原因となります。重要な臓器を癒す呼吸や瞑想の方法を学び、心身の負担となっている考えやネガティヴな感情を解放していきます。最後に、身体に備わっている自己修復、治癒機能を助けるヨガの浄化法をいくつか取りあげます。身体やマインドにかかっている負荷を軽くするだけで、ヨガの練習は、わたしたちの奥深くにあるもの、そしてわたしたちという枠を超え、絶え間なく存在しているものの滋養となる果実を実らせてくれるのです。

Fasting is more than just the absence of food. It is a very powerful tool for healing and strengthening the body. Very seldom is it recommended to fast on water only. It is a good thing to fast on water once a week, but rarely is it wise to do an extended water fast. Most of the time, it is better to go on a mono diet of those foods which possess the healing properties which the body needs. It is safer, and often more effective.
断食は、ただ単に食べないという事ではありません。これは身体を癒し、強くするための非常にパワフルな手段です。水しか飲まないという方法はまずお勧めしません。週に1回、水だけで過ごすというのなら良いのですが、水のみの断食法を長く続けるのはあまり賢明とは言えないでしょう。たいていの場合は、身体に必要な癒しの特性を含む食品を用いた単一食品ダイエットを行う方が良いでしょう。安全ですし、この方がより効果的です。

As with any tool, it’s important to know the proper use of fasting before starting it. Don’t just go on a fast indiscriminately, because you can actually do yourself more harm than good. You should prepare yourself for the fast and make sure you have the capacity to go through with it. Preparing for a fast begins with modifying your diet. Eliminate junk foods or nonfoods, and begin eating lighter meals composed of mostly vegetables or fruits. Then try fasting for a meal or two, then for a whole day. When you feel comfortable with light eating and occasional one-day fasting, then you’re probably ready to try a fast of three to five days. It is always best to be under the supervision of a heath practitioner, especially on your first fast, or any time you fast for more than seven to ten days. The key words are preparation, moderation and supervision.
どの方法をとるにしても、始める前に断食の正しいやり方を知っておく事が重要です。見境なく行わない事です。なぜなら、かえって害になってしまう事もあるからです。断食に入る準備をし、断食を行えるコンディションにあるかどうかを確かめておきましょう。断食の準備は、食生活を変える所から始めます。ジャンクフードや非食品(ノンフード)を避け、野菜や果物中心の軽い食事に切り替えて行きます。それから、1日のうち1食あるいは2食分を断食してみて、その後1日断食をしてみます。軽い食事や、時々1日断食する事に問題がないと感じたら、3~5日程度の断食をしてみても良いでしょう。常に医療関係者、健康管理医の指導のもとに行うことが望ましく、特に初めて断食をする場合、また7~10日以上の断食を行う時はそうする事が最善です。キーワードは、準備・適度・指導です。

断食を始める時期はいつでも良いのですが、春が最適です。地域によって厳密な時期は異なりますが、一般に春は気候が暖かく変わり始め、自然が再び目を覚ます季節です。そして体内の血液が入れ替わる時期なのです。ですから、浄化して体内組織を修復するのには最適な季節なのです。他に断食を始める重要な時期としては、特定の疾患を治す必要性を感じた時です。もう一度言いますが、経験を積んだ健康管理の専門家の指導のもとに行うのが最善です。

People who fast for the first time are often surprised to find that sticking to their diets is only half the challenge of fasting. Often the physical cleansing of a fast is accompanied by a mental cleansing as well. The discipline of the fast can bring out a lot of anger and negativity. If a person has used food to quell emotional appetites, then a fast may uncover these unfulfilled needs as well. The best way to deal with inner cleansing is just to stand back and let it happen. Try to view your negativity impartially as an observer. Every negative thought has a positive thought as its hidden twin. Simply watching a negative thought may cause its positive twin to appear. Then, by substituting the positive thought for the negative, you can change your consciousness from minus to plus.
初めて断食を行う人は、食事法をきちんと守る事は断食において越えなければならない壁の半分に過ぎないと知って驚くことが多いようです。断食をすると肉体的な浄化と共に、精神面の浄化も同時に起こるというのは良くあることです。断食によって、多くの怒りやネガティブさが引き出される事があります。感情的な欲求を鎮めるために食べる習慣があった人なら、断食によって満たされない欲求があらわになるかも知れません。内面の浄化に対処する一番良い方法は、一歩下がって浄化が起きるにまかせる事です。自分のネガティブな部分を、観察者の目で公平に見るようにするのです。ネガティブな思考には、対の要素としてポジティブな思考が必ず隠されています。ネガティブな思考を単純に見つめる事で、対になるポジティブが現れてくるでしょう。そして、ネガティブな思考をポジティブな思考に置き換えることで、私たちは意識をマイナスからプラスへと転じる事が出来るのです。

How you break a fast is very important. Fasting cleanses the body, but it also makes it very sensitive. If you eat nothing but steamed greens for a month and then break your fast with a pizza and a soda, your body is likely to have some rather unpleasant things to say to you! It’s become unused to handling heavy foods and stimulants. For this reason, you should break a fast slowly. Begin with lemon water and honey, or with fruit. Then gradually add light dairy products or vegetables. Save the more slow-to-digest foods – nuts, grains and hard cheese – for last.
どのように断食を終えるかはとても重要です。断食は身体を浄化しますが、同時に非常に繊細で過敏にもなります。1ヶ月間、蒸した青野菜だけで過ごした直後にピザと炭酸飲料を採ったら、身体は不快だというメッセージを送って来るかもしれません!身体は重い食べ物や刺激物を受け入れにくくなってしまっているでしょう。ですから、断食を終わる時はゆっくりと戻して行く必要があります。まずは、レモン入りの水とはちみつ、あるいは果物などから始めましょう。それから徐々に軽い乳製品や野菜を加えて行きます。消化に時間がかかるナッツや穀類、ハードチーズなどは最後にします。

One more word of warning. If you’ve been eating junk food for a long time, or in other ways abusing your body, don’t expect to entirely cleanse your system overnight. Go slowly and steadily, making modest dietary changes at first. You will see gradual improvements. Once you have effectively cleansed your system, don’t expect to go back on junk foods without paying for it. Your body, having become accustomed to a higher-grade fuel, will not tolerate the heavy stimulants and nonfoods you once loved. Go back to eating junk foods if you like, but be prepared for your body to protest.
もう一つ注意しておきます。ジャンクフードを長いこと食べていたり、その他の身体に悪い物を採り続けていた場合には、一朝一夕に体内組織が浄化される事は期待できません。ゆっくり、徐々に、まずは少しずつ食生活を変える所から始めます。だんだんと良くなって行くのが分かると思います。そして、効果的に体内組織を浄化できたら、お金を払わずにジャンクフードを食べようとは思わないように。あなたの身体はより上質な食物に慣れてしまったので、以前は大好きだった重たい刺激物や非食品には耐えられなくなっているでしょう。ジャンクフードを食べる生活に戻りたければそうしても良いですが、身体が抵抗する恐れがある事は肝に銘じておきましょう。

Tongue Brushing

First thing in the morning, brush the teeth, the gums and the tongue to pull out toxins from the mouth. The best toothpowder has 2 parts potassium alum and 1 part salt. It draws out the mucus and the bacteria that has accumulated. Brush the root of the tongue until you gag and choke and your eyes water. The watering of the eyes is said to prevent cataracts. When you brush the back of the tongue and gag, two balls of mucus will come up from the “monkey glands”. These glands are responsible for collecting toxins that have drained from the system overnight. This should be done a few times. This mucus has to come out, otherwise it will go back into the body when you swallow, and pollute your system.
朝起きたらまず、歯と歯茎、舌のブラッシングをして口の中の毒素を外に出しましょう。歯磨き粉には、カリウムミョウバンと塩を2:1で混ぜたものが最適です。この歯磨き粉が蓄積した粘液やバクテリアを取り除いてくれます。えずいたりむせたりして涙が出るくらいまで、舌の付け根の方をブラッシングします。涙は白内障の予防になると言われています。舌の奥をブラッシングしてえずくと、粘液の玉が2つ、「モンキー・グランド」と呼ばれる舌の奥の方にある2つの粘液腺から上がってきます。これらの腺は体内組織から一晩かけて流れてきた毒素を集める役割を担っています。このようにブラッシングを数回行います。この粘液は体外に出さなくてはいけません。そうしないと、飲み込むのと一緒に体内へ戻ってしまい、組織を汚染します。

How to Dry Brush やり方:
– always brush toward the heart
必ず心臓に向かってブラッシングします。
– Begin with your feet and brush vigorously in circular motions
足から始めて、しっかりと円を描くようにブラッシング。
– Continue brushing up your legs
そのまま脚を上に向かって続けます。
– Proceed to your hands and arms
手・腕へと移ります。
– Brush your entire back and abdomen area, shoulders and neck
背中全体をブラッシングし、腹部、肩、首をブラッシング
– Use circular counter-clockwise strokes on the abdomen
腹部は反時計回りの円を描くように行います。
– Lightly brush the breasts
胸部は軽くブラッシング。
– Brush upwards on the back and down from the neck

Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy is a science.  It brightens and clears the mind.  It will bring energy and healing to all parts of the body.  It will cure your stomach, digestive tract, heart and brain.  It will totally change your cells and purify unhealthy blood.  Your body can be totally rebuilt.  Each organ will be rebuilt.  How?
ハイドロセラピーは科学です。マインドを明瞭に、クリアにします。身体のあらゆる部位にエネルギーと癒しをもたらします。胃や消化管、心臓や脳を回復させます。細胞を一新し、不健康な血液を浄化します。身体が完全に回復し、内臓の一つ一つが修復されるでしょう。でも、どうやって?

We do ice cold water massage and not only do we open up the capillaries, but then when they close down again, that is, return to normal, that blood goes back to the organs.  The heart, kidneys, lungs, liver – each organ has its own blood supply.  In this way the organs get their flushing.  When the organs get a flushing, then immediately the glands have to change their secretion.  And this changes, rejuvenates your glands and blood chemistry and promotes youth and health.
まず氷のように冷たい水でマッサージを行いますが、毛細血管を開くだけでなく、再び血管が閉じて通常の状態に戻った時、血液が内臓へ戻ってゆきます。心臓、腎臓、肺、肝臓など、内臓はそれぞれに血液供給を行っています。この方法で、内臓を洗浄するのです。臓器が洗浄されると、(分泌)腺から出る分泌物がたちまち変化します。そしてこの変化によって、腺と血液成分が活性化し、若さと健康を促進するのです。

When you take a cold shower, your blood rushes out to meet the challenge.  This means all the capillaries open up and all deposits have to go.  Everything is cleaned; it is a very cleansing process.  During hydrotherapy, the body is challenged by the cold water and by massaging the body, it can meet this challenge and not feel cold.
冷たいシャワーを浴びると、血液は困難に立ち向かうためどっと流れ出します。どういう事かというと、老廃物を排出するために身体中の毛細血管が開くのです。全てが一掃されます。まさにこれが浄化のプロセスです。ハイドロセラピーを行う間、身体は冷水に耐えながらその水でマッサージされますが、マッサージを続けるうちに冷水を冷たいと感じなくなるでしょう。

If you bring your body to that temperature where it can meet the cold by its own circulatory power, then all you have to do is come out and totally towel yourself, put on warm clothes, and put a blanket around you.  You can roll yourself up in a big bath towel also and you will become wild hot.  All the blood that is in the capillaries and in circulation will go back to the organs.  So the organs will get a rich supply of blood like a crop getting a beautiful rain, and then the crop grows up.  In exactly the same way, this is how you can balance your health.
身体はこのような低温にさらされると、自ら循環を促すようにして対処しますが、そうしたらシャワーから出てタオルでしっかりと身体を拭きましょう。暖かい服を着て、毛布にくるまっても良いでしょう。大きなバスタオルで身体を包むのも良いです。こうすると身体は熱いくらいに温まります。毛細血管を循環していた血液が全て内臓へ戻って行くのです。内臓には十分な血液が行き渡りますが、これは作物が恵みの雨を受けて成長するプロセスに似ています。まさに同じやり方で、こうして健康のバランスを保って行くのです。

Take your hands, let the cold water fall, and rub them to the extent that they become hot under the ice cold water.  And so with every party of the body; let it go, let it be, and stimulate yourself.  There’s nothing like standing under ice cold water and making your body become hot.  And everywhere that the cold water hits, the blood will come.  Everywhere you massage, rebuilding will occur and the psyche of each cell of the body will be reconstructed.
冷たい水を浴びながら、熱いと感じられる位まで両手をこすり合わせます。それから身体全体も同じようにこすりましょう。手放し、なすがままにして、身体に刺激を与えます。氷のように冷たい水を浴びながら, 身体を熱くするという経験は、普段得られない事だと思います。そして、冷水が当たった場所へ血液は流れます。マッサージした部位では修復が行われ、体内の細胞の中心となる部分一つ一つが再構築されるでしょう。

In hydrotherapy, water is a fatherly shield and anybody who can produce this shield that conquers the coldness of the water can conquer death.  That’s what hydrotherapy is based on.  It’s a very simple thing.  If I with my body can conquer the chilliness of the water, I can take away the chilliness of my life.  Value your life, have a strong built mind, body and soul.  Then the adversities of life will not touch you.
ハイドロセラピーでは、水が父親のようにあなたを守る盾の役割をしますが、水の冷たさを克服してこの盾を作り出す事ができた人は、死をも乗り越えると言われています。これがハイドロセラピーの基本となる考え方です。自らの身体と共に水の冷たさを克服する事ができたなら、私達は人生における冷たさも取り去る事が出来るでしょう。命を大切にしましょう。強くしっかりとしたマインド、身体、魂を持つのです。そうすれば、あなたは人生において困難に見舞われる事はありません。

When we think of prosperity and abundance, we mostly think of money. But if we examine this idea, at its root is actually energy/prana/ki. And when we look even closer, we see that this energy is all-pervading and naturally abundant. So if we indeed want to live a life of prosperity and abundance, the first step is to understand this simple truth and to develop habits that support this reality within and without.

We have the potential to build and store vast amounts of energy if we are aware of our work, what we create, and how we manage it. Our bodies are containers of energy. So prosperity comes when we can strengthen our container, build the energy we store in it, and finally circulate that energy in our body and in our lives. The inner moves toward the outer, so as we develop this ability within, we experience the results as increased resources like money as well as opportunity.

In this workshop, we will examine our attitudes to discover and clear any obstacles that stand in our way of prosperity. We will learn simple exercises to create a supportive inner and outer environment where we can build, store and circulate energy and develop necessary awareness for abundance. In the end, we realize that we can practice and eventually stabilize our activity, our mind, our awareness and live effortlessly a life of prosperity and abundance.
